Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

We would like to wish all the players, parents and our ever loyal supporters a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

Match Roundup Saturday 20th December

Despite the bad weather this week the games on Saturday were on and we were at Cefn Onn School for a 10:30am kick off. A very good turnout this week with 10 players available but sadly no Richard. Let's hope he is better soon and has a great Christmas. Unfortunately as Lisvane Panthers Red were struggling for numbers only two other teams turned up today Canton Rangers and Heol Hir Red.
Heol Hir Black 1 - Canton Rangers 0
A fantastic start with an early goal coming from a quick attack down the left with Matt finding Gethin who took the ball past a couple of Canton defenders and played a neat ball across to Lucas who, with a lovely light touch, found Kyle who buried the first chance of the game. More great attacking football until half time with Matt working the left wing and Kyle on the right and Gethin and Tyrone through the middle creating plenty of chances for Lucas who was unlucky not to add to the lead. The second half saw Matt and Gethin take a well earned rest and Alice and Josef take up the left and right wing roles with Kyle dropping into the middle with Tyrone. Canton really turned up the pressure and made a few good chances but Adam and Liam worked hard in defence to keep the shots to a minimum and Sam made excellent saves when Canton got their shots off. Brilliant work on the left wing from Josef almost got us a second but he was brought down by a Canton player just before he was able to make the final pass to Lucas who was in athe perfect position to score. Unfortunately Canton defended well and we were unable to get a second despite some hard work by every player in a red and black shirt. When the final whistle went the better team won and all the players were glad to get a rest after a tough, physical game.
Scorer(s) Kyle 1
Heol Hir Black 1 - Heol Hir Red 0
After the recent defeat to the Reds when we were short on numbers this game was set up to be a big finale to the first half of the season with both sides out for a win. The game started with Liam and Kyle on the bench after working so hard in the first game and Matt and Adam paired at the back, Josef and Alice on opposite wings, Tyrone and Gethin in the middle with Lucas up-front and Sam in goal. Another quick start nearly had the same result with a few great attacks really testing the Reds new keeper who did a great job of keeping us out. It was end to end with some great football by both sides right up until half time. 0-0 at half time meant the second half was going to be a nail biting one for both sets of supporters. Liam came on at the back for Adam and Kyle came on for Lucas with Matt moving into the right wing position and Alice helping out at the back. Another quick start and very close to getting an early goal with Matt working hard down the right and Josef doing the same down the left. The deadlock was broken when some neat passing through the mid-field put Kyle through and with a lovely touch under the keeper he found the net making it a well deserved 1-0 lead for us. The scoreline could easily have been increased with some fantastic attacking football setting Matt up for a few good chances but the Reds keeper did well to keep them out. Another great attack down the right and a lovely ball across from Kyle very nearly made it 2-0 but the shot from Josef went just wide. All in all a good game and a good result against a much improved Heol Hir Reds side who seem to have made a few good additions to their squad.
Scorer(s) Kyle 1
Man of the Match
An extremely tough decision yet again with some great saves from Sam, brilliant defending by Adam, Liam and Matt, fantastic work on the left wing from Josef, great shots from Lucas and outstanding tackling and passing from Gethin and Tyrone. This week for some excellent attacking play, great passing and solid tackling in defence in the last half against the Reds it had to go to Alice.
Well done Alice you get the last (Wo) Man of the Match of 2008.

Match Roundup Saturday 13th December

Sorry for taking so long with this weeks match reports. I think one New Year's resolution could be to get the blog done on the same day as the games.
A horrible wet morning before this week's games but luckily enough the 11:00am kick off meant the rain had stopped in time for kick off. One small, wet and very muddy pitch and one larger one in a bit better condition gave the team a bit of a test this week but they did us proud and gave us some of the most memorable performances we have ever seen.

Heol Hir Black 3 - Lisvane Panthers Orange 0
It's been a while since we played a Lisvane team and and we have always had mixed results in the games against them. This time around the team started brilliantly with Gethin and Tyrone controlling the game from the centre of midfield and Alice making quick attacks down the right wing and putting in cross after cross until Tyrone found the net with a great strike. With Richard and Sam defending well Liam was barely tested in goal in the first half. We piled on the pressure and were soon 2-0 up with Lucas scoring a great goal to mark his return to goalscoring form. The second half started with Kyle on for Lucas and Matt on for Tyrone as they both deserved a rest and had given us a comfortable lead. More great football in the second half with Matt and Kyle getting forward at every opportunity and Alice and Josef attacking down the wings putting crosses in to try to add to the 2-0 lead. We earned the third goal with a great pass from Richard releasing Josef up the left wing who found Matt with a neat pass and Matt cooly finished the move with another well taken goal which finished off any hope Lisvane had of getting back into the game.
Scorer(s): Tyrone 1, Lucas 1, Matt 1
Heol Hir Black 2 - AFC Whitchurch Red 0
After switching to the drier pitch and making a few changes to the starting lineup we started really well against a team we have had some tough games against in the past. An outstanding passing move led to the first goal for Josef in a while which he finished beautifully. Liam's pass out from the defense found Alice on the right wing who played a ball across the middle to Kyle who took it well and played a perfect ball for Josef to run onto and power into the top corner. Some excellent linkup play almost gave us a 2-0 lead before half time when Alice's clever pass set Kyle up for a stunning header which hit the bar and bounced clear. In the second half Whitchurch had a few decent attacks but with Sam on top form in goals and the rock solid partnership of Liam and Matt in defense they didn't really look like scoring. With Gethin on for Tyrone to give him a well earned rest the attacking football continued. A beautiful cross from Gethin found Lucas in space and, as we have come to expect from Lucas, he effortlessly connected with it and found the back of the net rounding off a well deserved 2-0 win.
Scorer(s): Josef 1 , Lucas 1
Heol Hir Black 4- Maindy Corries Red 3
The final game of the day was back on the muddy pitch against a side we havent had the best results against this season. Josef and Alice had a well earned rest after two games playing at 110% down the wings with non-stop running. A bit of a change with Kyle starting on the left and Liam on the right and Matt and Richard protecting Sam in goal. Gethin and Tyrone were outstanding and controlled the centre of the pitch winning tackles and playing great passes out to the wings. One lapse of concentration from a coner gave Maindy a 1-0 lead. Gethin did a great job of lifting the team and within no time Lucas got us level again with another great finish and soon after scored a second to give us a 2-1 lead. Maindy got themselves back in the game with some great football leading to an equaliser which they thoroughly deserved. Just before half time Kyle worked hard to work the ball forward and played a great ball which set up Lucas with a chance for his hat-trick. No surprises really when he got it as there was no way Lucas was going to miss out on a hat-trick especially playing as well as he has this week.. 3-2 up at half time and a thoroughly exciting first half . The second half was more of the same with great football from both sides which went from end to end with shot after shot testing both keeper's but Sam's fingertip saves kept Maindy at bay. Maindy got lucky when a ball coming in put pressure on Liam who did a great job of trying to head it wide of the post but was really unlucky to put it in his own net. 3-3 and only a few minutes left meant this game was looking likely to end in a draw which would have been a fair result for both teams given the amazing football played on such a terrible pitch. With less than a minute left Lucas tested a tired keeper with an accurate long shot which was unlucky not to go in. 30 seconds left according to the ref and just time for one last attack which set Kyle on his way down his favoured right side past defenders and finishing with an un-stoppable shot seconds before the final whistle. A fitting end to an amazing game to watch for both sets of spectators and it was a shame when the final whistle went but it was nice to grab a late winner.
Scorer(s): Lucas 3, Kyle 1
Man of The Match
Every player could easily have won Man of The Match this week with some of the best football we have seen the team play and every player giving 110% effort despite terrible pitch conditions. 5 goals from Lucas, stunning saves from Sam, excellent defending from Matt, Liam and Richard, brilliant tackling and passing from Tyrone and Kyle and non-stop attacks down both wings from Alice and Josef but, for his amazing work rate, insightful passing and brilliant work lifting the team with positive encouragement Gethin claimed this week's award. Great work Gethin well played again this week.

Match Roundup Saturday 29th November

A cold end to the month and this week's fixtures were at Cefn Onn School again. We started the morning down on numbers with only seven players as Adam, Liam, Lucas and Tyrone were not able to play this week. A big thank you to Dafydd and Jason for the loan of Max for the morning who did a great job up front scoring three goals for us.

Heol Hir Black 5 - Calvery Blue 0
New opposition this week and the first all girls team we have ever played. A good start for us quickly led to our loan striker Max getting an early goal after some great passing and unselfish play set him up with an opportunity to show us his finishing skills, which he did brilliantly. Good work down both wings from Alice and Josef and neat passing from Kyle and Gethin through the middle put pressure on the Calvery defence and forced an unlucky own goal and a 2 - 0 lead at half time. The second half started well and we kept the pressure on leading to a lovely finish by Kyle after a great ball from Gethin. Alice got her name on the score sheet with a well taken goal after working hard and getting several good chances. The game was rounded off with a second for Kyle with another well placed shot proving impossible for the Calvery keeper making it a comfortable 5-0 win.
Scorer(s) Max 1, O.G. 1, Kyle 2, Alice 1
Heol Hir Black 3 -Star FC "B" 1
Despite having to field the same team as the first game the team came out looking fresh and started the game confidently. A slight change this game with Alice in defense with Richard and Matt on the right wing. Excellent passing and continuous attacks earned another goal for Max. This time a clever glancing header as the ball drifted across the box found the back of the net putting us 1-0 up and looking quite comfortable. The first half ended 1-0 even after some good shots tested the Star keeper and a great break found Josef in on goal but he was unable to put it past the keeper. Another goal from Max in the second half put us 2-0 up and the teams confidence was showing with some brilliant movement and neat passing creating attack after attack. Matt earned us a third with a great cross from Gethin finding him in space and Matt controlled the ball brilliantly, turned and finished it beautifully. Great tackling at the back from Alice and Richard and some good saves from Sam kept Star from scoring and getting back in the game. Late on Star created a decent attack and Kyle as usual tracked back faultlessly but in trying to clear the ball while running at full speed he was really unlucky to find his own net. the game ended 3-1 to us and was another really good performance despite the cold weather and the team being short on numbers.
Scorer(s) Max 2, Matt 1 Kyle O.G.
Heol Hir Black 0- Heol Hir Red 2
With a very cold and tired team it was a difficult final game which despite some solid defending from Sam and Richard and some first half saves from Matt ended with the Reds taking their first win against us for some time. Some decent attacking football was unable to beat the Reds new keeper and we were just too tired to contain the pace and commitment of the returning Daniel who scored both goals for the Reds.
Scorer(s) None
Man of The Match
Every week just keeps on getting harder to choose a Man of the Match and with seven players and a loan player making up the eight it has to be said the team performed brilliantly and should be pleased with the results they worked so hard to earn. Maybe next time we can get our usual good result against the Reds. After giving 100% effort all over the pitch, great attacking and defensive play, clever passing and two great goals this week's Man of the Match was awarded to Kyle. Well played this week Kyle.

Match Roundup Saturday 22nd November

Another week at Cefn Onn School this week and a bit of disappointment as only two teams to play with Marlboro Red not turning up and Maindy short of players. This made it a bit more difficult picking teams to make sure every player gets a fair number of games this week.

Heol Hir Black 0 - Marlboro Sports Black 2
An outstanding first half performance against possibly the toughest team in our league had Marlboro working hard to stop us taking the lead. Brilliant work on the wings by Matthew and Kyle and some fantastic tackling and passing in the middle by Tyrone and Gethin created a fair few great chances to take the lead. Unfortunately we were unlucky not to find the net with Lucas and Kyle coming close.Adam and Liam stayed solid at the back doing a brilliant job keeping Marlboro out and Sam made some great saves to keep it 0-0 at half time. The second half saw Kyle and Matthew take a well earned rest and Alice and Josef take up their positions on the wings. Unfortunately we lost a bit of the momentum we had built up and despite working hard were beaten by two decent goals from Marlboro.
Maindy Corries White v Marlboro Sports Black
Whilst Maindy and Marlboro played each other the team kept themselves warm with a slow paced practice game. A big thank you to Sam for playing a great game in defense for Maindy to make up the numbers and for giving 100% effort despite playing for another team.
Heol Hir Black 2 - Maindy Corries White 1
As Maindy were missing one player Lucas kindly helped them out for the first half and worked really hard despite playing against his own team. Thanks Lucas!!!
This game started really well just like the first one and saw a strong attacking lineup with Alice and Josef playing wide, Matthew and Kyle paired up in the middle and Gethin sat in front of the defence controlling the game with some solid tackling and excellent passing leading to a great early goal from Matthew. By half time this lead had been doubled with another well worked attack resulting in Matthew's second goal of the game. The second half saw Tyrone come on to replace Gethin, Matthew drop into defence filling in for Adam who played the second half for Maindy and Lucas back with his team mates and playing up front. Despite some excellent football we were unable to add to the first half lead with Tyrone coming the closest to scoring and Maindy worked hard until they got a well earned goal putting the pressure back on us. The team did well to see the game out with some solid defending and tackling in the middle of the park and were unlucky not to extend the lead with a few great attempts.
Scorer(s) Matthew 2
Man of the Match
Picking "Man of the Match" gets more and more difficult every week with the whole team giving 100% effort and all of them playing some fantastic football week after week. This week after two excellent performances, two well taken goals and non stop hard work in a variety of positions it was Matthew that deserved to take the honours (and the £2). Great work Matt. Well played.

Match Roundup Saturday 8th November

Back to Cefn Onn School after a week without any games but a great training session on Monday night. Three tough looking games this week but great news for the team with Adam fit and well and back in the side.
Heol Hir Black 2 - Maindy Corries Black 1
A really bright start against a pretty organised Maindy side led to an early lead through a great throw in, good work from Matthew holding the ball up, and a great finish from Kyle. The team finished the first half 1 -0 up and fully deserved it. The second half saw a determined Maindy side put together two decent attacks leading to an equaliser but we were not going to settle for a draw and piled on the pressure with great wing work from Josef and Alice and far too many shots to keep count. The continuous pressure helped to win corner after corner until a clever pass from Alice and a great turn and shot from Matthew got a well deserved winner late in the game.
Scorer(s) Kyle 1, Matthew 1
Heol Hir Black 1 - Star FC "A" 0
The second game saw Kyle, Matthew and Josef take a well earned rest allowing Lucas, Tyrone and Liam to start after sitting out the first game. Another good start led to a well taken early goal from Lucas after some solid tackling and neat passing in the midfield from Gethin and Tyrone. Some good work on the wings from Alice and Liam put Lucas through for some great shooting chances but Star did well to keep him out. Adam and Richard had to work hard at the back to protect the lead and Sam did well to keep a clean sheet helping us to two wins out of two.
Scorer(s) Lucas 1
Heol Hir 1 - Grangetown BC Blue 1
After a very physical game a few weeks ago it was good to see the team started confidently and showed Grangetown how well they can play. A hard fought first half ended goalless despite some brilliant attacking football from both sides. It had looked like Grangetown had scored early in the second half but the goal was dissallowed for a cheeky handball. Some hard work and decent passing from Kyle and Gethin led to Lucas getting his second goal of the day and it looked like we could get three wins but Grangetown worked hard and grabbed an equaliser. The game ended in a draw and helped us to finish the day unbeaten.
Scorer(s) Lucas 1
Man of the Match
As usual picking the Man of the Match was extremely difficult with every player putting in 100% effort and playing some of the best football our ever supportive parents have seen them play. Well done to everyone this week it was definitely one of the best week's we have had this season.
For his excellent work rate, great movement and effortless finishing Lucas was named this weeks Man of the Match. Well done Lucas getting two great goals this week.

The Gethin Dance!!

Despite scoring 5 goals this weekend we still haven't seen "The Gethin Dance" out there on the pitch as a goal celebration. Come on team I guess we will have to practice it again on Monday night at training.

See you there.

Match Roundup Saturday 25th October

A welcome local fixture this weekend and another Heol Hir derby at Cefn Onn School.
Sadly no Adam again this week. Let's hope he is feeling better and is back training soon.

Heol Hir Black 0 - Ely Rangers 0
A tough first game but the team were keen to improve on last week and really tested the Ely defense early on. They came close throughout the first half with some great chances that on any other day Josef would have netted but unfortunately not today. Ely were kept from scoring by some great defending from Richard and Liam and great work in the middle by Gethin and Tyrone. More of the same in the second half despite bringing on Kyle for Josef and Alice for Matthew we just couldnt find the net. Some very close efforts from Lucas and Tyrone late on almost grabbed a late win but the game ended goalless.
Scorer(s) None
Heol Hir Black 1 - Ty Celyn 2
The second game got off to a bad start with a goal going in from a corner which we failed to defend and a well worked second putting us 2-0 down within a few minutes. The team picked themselves up and through some hard work and great passing Alice got us a great goal to get back in the game. The second half started with Richard on for Josef and Gethin on for Tyrone and was much more like the football we are used to. Some great saves from Sam stopped Ty Celyn from scoring any more but Lucas and Kyle just couldnt get an equaliser.
Scorer(s) Alice 1
Heol Hir Black 4 - Heol Hir Red 0
Last time we met the Red's were brilliant defensively and the game ended 0-0 so the team knew they would have to work hard to get a result this time around. The game started with Lucas and Liam resting and Matthew giving Sam a break in goals allowing him a game in defense with Richard. Our midfield took control early on with some brilliant passing and excellent work from Josef and Alice on the wings and Gethin and Tyrone bossing the centre. This soon set Kyle up for a stunner of an opening goal. This was followed soon after by a goal from Josef getting into a great position to volley the ball over the line and another great finish from Kyle. Half time the Red's were short a player and Tyrone stepped up to help them out. After watching patiently during the first half Lucas came on in his usual striker role with Kyle dropping into the middle and Liam taking over from Matthew in goal. The scoreline could have been a lot worse for the Reds if Jack hadnt worked hard in goal to stop non stop shooting chances for Lucas and Kyle and it took some great team play from Lucas setting Kyle up for his third to make it a well deserved 4 -0 win.
Scorer(s) Kyle 3, Josef 1
Man of The Match
A tough call this week with every one of the team playing some of their best football in patches but for consistent hard work, excellent movement on and off the ball and the teams first hat-trick of the season this weeks Man of The Match went to Kyle. Great work Kyle. Well done.

Match Roundup - Saturday 18th October

This week the team travelled to Eglwys Newydd in Whitchurch and were up against three tough sides on two very different pitches. Both pitches were quite short with one narrow and one a fair bit wider. It was looking like only three teams would turn up but Grangetown made it just as we kicked off our first game. Only one player not available this week. Let's hope Adam is back fighting fit pretty soon.

Heol Hir Black 1 - Marlboro Sports Red 0
The first half started brightly against a side that have always tested us in the past but we couldn't find the net despite Lucas coming close on a number of occasions. It was always going to be difficult and the team came out fighting after the break. Just one change was made which proved to be an inspired substitution with Kyle giving Lucas a well earned rest and going on to score an excellent winner. A solid defensive display from Matthew and Liam backed up by hard work in the middle as usual by Gethin, Alice and Tyrone and Sam barely being tested in goal kept a very determined Marlboro form getting an equaliser.
Scorer(s) Kyle
Heol Hir Black 0 - Grangetown BC Blue 2
After the brilliant result against Marlboro the team were unable to break down a very physical Grangetown side and despite some great saves from Sam and some good football in patches we were beaten by two decent goals. One lesson we can learn from this game is that we need to be a better prepared for the more physical teams and we can not afford to back off teams like Grangetown or they will make us pay.
Scorer(s) None
Heol Hir Black 1 - AFC Whitchurch Red 3
It took a little while for the team to bounce back from the tough game against Grangetown and Whitchurch made the most of a sluggish first half to take the lead and looked likely to run away with the game up until the half time break. The second half was a huge improvement and with a great goal from Tyrone and some solid defending as usual from Richard a 2-2 draw looked the most likely result. Some superb shots from Lucas and Liam and excellent work on the wing from Josef should have earned us an equaliser but unfortunately one chance was all Whitchurch needed to nick a match winning third undoing all our hard work.
Scorer(s) Tyrone
Man of The Match
This week Man of The Match went to Liam for an outstanding defensive partnership with Matthew, continuos running on and off the ball in the midfield and some superb passing and shooting. Well done Liam. (sorry about the minor damage on the trophy!!!)

Great Start To The Season

Three weeks into a new season and the team is already playing the exciting football we know they are capable of and have earned some great results against difficult opposition.
The team quickly recovered from losing the first game of the season against Maindy Corries and have now gone 8 games unbeaten with 5 wins and 3 draws so well done to you all.
It was great on Saturday to hear the other teams talking about how good we were and how hard it was to play against us.
Lets see if we can keep this going and show the league that we are a team that plays great passing football, scores excellent goals and is hard to beat because we attack and defend as a team.
Don't forget there are no games on Saturday 11th October but training will be on Monday 13th as usual. If possible could parents bring completed registration forms and club fees and hand to Simon at next weeks training.
Thanks for the continued support from all parents.

Match Roundup - Saturday 4th October

After a slight delay in kicking off due to problems with goalposts at Waterhall the team started what looked like being a difficult morning against some good sides who have given us a tough time in the past. Unfortunately Adam couldn't make it and there were a few decisions to be made to bolster the defense before the first game.

Heol Hir Black 2 Caerau Ely 1
This game started with Liam giving Sam a break in goals and showing that even out of position he gives 100% only being beaten by one well taken shot in an exciting game which saw Tyrone and Lucas both scoring great goals to take a well deserved lead and first win of the day.
Scorer(s) Lucas 1 Tyrone 1
Heol Hir Black 1 Heath Park Rangers 0
A tough game against a team that has been really difficult to beat in the past ended with us taking a hard earned win through some great passing and movement and solid defensive play from Richard. Sam as usual kept control of his goalmouth making it impossible for Heath to get the goal they needed after some hard work and persistence from Kyle, Alice and Josef resulted in Josef getting his first goal of the season.
Scorer(s) Josef 1
Heol Hir Black 1 Fairwater Red 1
The last game of the day started brightly with some great attacking play from Kyle on the right, Josef in a new left wing role and Lucas in his favourite striking role which after what seemed like dozens of attempts resulted in a well deserved lead. Some excellent defending by Matthew and Liam with Gethin and Tyrone controlling the middle of the pitch made it look like we would get three wins for the first time this season but Fairwater found the net with a great bit of football and a well placed shot. Despite piling on pressure and too many shots to count the team were unable to get a winner but were pleased to finish another week unbeaten.
Scorer(s) Lucas 1
Man Of The Match
This weeks Man Of The Match was a difficult decision with a few players coming very close after some of the best football the team has played this season. The award this week went to Josef for adapting really well to a new role on the left wing which, surprisingly saw him tracking back and defending, some great link up play with Kyle and Lucas and getting the winner against Heath Park Rangers. Well Done Josef!!

Team Captain and Vice Captain

After Saturday's games the players were given the chance to vote for the player they thought should be team captain this season.
Only one vote allowed per player and they were unable to vote for themself.
It was announced at Monday night training that after counting the votes Tyrone received the most votes so would be team captain this season and Sam came a very close second and will be vice captain.
Congratulations to you both.

Match Roundup - Saturday 27th September

After last weeks mixed bag of results the team worked hard at training to improve on a few things and it showed out on the pitch with some great results.

Heol Hir Red 0 Heol Hir Black 0

As usual our derby against the Reds was a hard fought game which, despite some good attacking play, ended in a draw due to some solid defending by the Reds who did a great job of getting bodies behind the ball. A better first game this week by our team who made some good chances but were held off by a new look Reds team with some promising new players. Josef came close to getting what could have been a Goal of the Season contender when, after some great build up play, Lucas whipped a lovely ball across the box and Josef''s diving header attempt just went wide.

Heol Hir Black 2 Pentyrch Rangers 1

Always a difficult side to beat but the team put in a great performance to come out winners with some brilliant work on the wings by Alice and Liam resulting in both of them scoring. Liam scored from the right wing after making a break and cutting inside before letting loose with a thunderous shot which gave the keeper no chance. Alice scored a well deserved first goal of the season after working hard up and down the wing making numerous chances. Some good passing and movement was finished with a well placed shot across the face of the goal which , for once, Josef left run watching it over the line and didn't try to poach for himself. Pentyrch put up a good fight but due to some rock solid defending by Adam and Richard and great saves from Sam were unable to score more than one.

Scorer(s) Alice 1 Liam 1

Heol Hir Black 2 Canton Rangers 0

A great result against a team that beat us 3 - 0 last time we met them. As usual the team saved some of their best football for the last game and were great to watch with Gethin and Tyrone bossing the middle of the pitch. This left us free to attack at will on the wings and we were able to repeatedly put pressure on the defenders resulting in two brilliant goals, one each for Kyle and Lucas. Kyle with a trademark net burster which would have taken the keepers hands off if he had got to it and a bit of individual skill and commitment from Lucas who took the ball through the defense shrugging off tackles to find the back of the net. Another great goalkeeping performance from Sam and some solid defending by Matthew and Liam kept Canton from scoring earning Sam's second clean sheet of the day.

Goodbye to Liam

Unforunately Liam who has been with us since the days of Under 8's football and shared the goalkeeping with Sam has decided not to play football this season so will not be coming to training or matches anymore.
I'm sure the team will join me in thanking Liam for some spectacular saves and solid defending in his time with us and wish him well in whatever he decides to do with his Saturday mornings and Monday nights.

Match Roundup - Saturday 20th September

Sorry for taking a few days to get the blog updated but not so much spare time in our house since Josef's new baby brother arrived.
Well we finally got the season started after a wet and miserable Summer break and had a full turnout of players in time for kick off at Llanedeyrn High School. A big thank you to the parents for getting the team there on time for our first games.
After a short delay getting the pitches organised the team finally got a chance to see if we could start this season as well as we ended the last one and ended up with a mixed bag of results.
Heol Hir Black 0 Maindy Corries 4
A tough first game against a very organised Maindy side who unfortunately for us were just more awake than we were and proved too quick for us. Despite the scoreline there was still some good football played but our sleepy start made it hard to get in the game and give a good account of ourselves.
Heol Hir Black 1 Llanedeyrn Bulldogs White 1
After the slow start in the first game the team showed a lot more of the kind of football we are used to seeing in this game and made a game of it. Despite going behind the team worked hard to stay in with a chance of getting something out of the game and with what could be an early contender for goal of the season (or maybe cross of the season) Lucas got the goal that earned us a draw. A much better performane from the whole team and some signs of the football they know they are all capable of.
Scorer(s) Lucas 1
Heol Hir Black 3 Llanedeyrn Bulldogs Red 2
As usual the team saved their best for the last game and did well to get a good lead by half time and despite a good comeback from the Bulldogs in the second half did enough to earn our first win of the season. A good all round performance with some great passing and movement and some excellent defending to hold onto the win.
Scorer(s) Kyle 2 Lucas 1
Man of the match
This week Man of the match went to Gethin for his consistent hard work on and off the ball for the whole time he was on the pitch. Well done Gethin!

Great news for Kyle and Sam who have been selected for Cardiff's F.A.W. Academy after attending a trial at UWIC at the end of last season.

End of season party Saturday 28th June 2008

A big thanks to everyone who was able to make it to the end of season party at the Ty Mawr in Lisvane. It was great to see most of the team were able to make it and so many supportive parents came along.
This year we had three awards to hand out and in Simon's abscence Andy stepped in to give them out and give an overview of the season which was much appreciated.

Fistly well done to Tyrone who was awarded this years "Player of The Season" award. Throughout the season Tyrone has given 110% in every game no matter who the opposition were and did a great job of helping to keep the team going in some really tough games with some fantastic tracking back, some exceptional tackling and a few pretty useful goals as well.

Congratulations also to Josef for being awarded this years "Most Improved Player of the Season " award. It seems that despite almost completely ignoring me he seems to have taken on board what both Simon and Andy have been telling him and has worked hard to improve his all round game. Josef has developed a better awareness of the game and links up well with other players and has set up some great goals for other players as well as scoring some great goals himself.

And last but not least this year we had a new award, "The Golden Boot" in recognition of another exceptional seasons goal tally for Lucas with a fantastic 30 goals this season and 36 goals last season. Lucas has scored some spectacular goals throughout the season against some very good teams and makes it look all too easy at times scoring seemingly effortless goals just when the team needs them.

As well as the three individual awards the whole team were commended for another great season of exceptional football played with a strong team spirit and a smile on their faces no matter what the results were.

A big thank you to all the parents and supporters' clubs (Kyle) for turning up every week in some dreadful conditions and giving the team so much encouragement throughout the season.

Craig.
